With a background in communications, marketing, events, and philanthropic management, Hadley has been creatively developing and running her own businesses since graduating from Wesleyan University. Together with her husband TJ, Hadley founded The Urban Grape and Progressive Wine Company, two groundbreaking businesses in the wine and beverage industry. In 2023, TJ and Hadley formed the Drink Progressively Group, a Boston-based parent company that oversees the work of Douglas’ business ventures. Hadley and TJ are also the founders of The Urban Grape Wine Studies Award for Students of Color, an annual education, mentorship, and paid internship program dedicated to increasing BIPOC representation in the wine industry.
In 2017, Hadley authored Drink Progressively: A Bold New Way to Pair Wine and Food with TJ and chef Gabriel Frasca. Hadley was named one of Inc Magazine’s Top 100 Female Founders in 2020 and won an Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 2021. The Urban Grape was named the US Chamber of Commerce Small Business of the Year in 2021. The Urban Grape is also a 4-time Top 100 Wine Retail Store in America winner, a 2-time Wine Enthusiast Wine Star Nominee, a 5-time ICIC Inner City 100 winner, and a 6-time Best of Boston winner. The store has been nationally profiled in Food & Wine, The New York Times, NPR, Wine Spectator, and Wine Enthusiast, among others.
Hadley is a member of the Dean's Advisory Board for the Metropolitan College at Boston University. Hadley is a frequent conference panelist focusing on women founders and the importance of equity and allyship in the workplace. Hadley loves to help things grow - when she is not focused on growing the businesses of the Drink Progressively Group and the careers of the employees of her various companies, she can be found with her hands in the dirt, growing dahlias in her garden.
