*6R* 2018 Giacomo Conterno "Cascina Francia" Barolo (Piedmont, IT)

Conterno's 2018 "Cascina Francia" Barolo exudes a commanding presence, revealing profound depth with a subtle touch of austerity. It exemplifies the edgy nature that characterizes all 2018 Barolos, yet it also possesses a distinct textural creaminess that imparts a wealth of character. Throughout the tasting experience, one encounters a medley of flavors, including spice, menthol, leather, and an array of balsamic nuances, all of which culminate in a deep and imposing finish. In an unconventional move, Roberto Conterno chose to forgo his Barolo Monfortino in 2018, instead opting to blend all the casks into his Francia bottling. Such decisions often lead to pleasant surprises in the future, and it wouldn't be surprising if this turns out to be the case here.

    About The Varietal

    Nebbiolo

Nebbiolo is the prominent grape variety responsible for the high-quality red wines found in northwestern Italy, especially the robust reds of Barolo and Barbaresco. These wines are often characterized by a unique aroma that combines scents of "tar and roses." Nebbiolo wines typically exhibit moderate body, robust tannins, elevated acidity, and are highly sought after, often commanding premium prices.
