June Urban Connoisseur: Porch-Side Sippers
For this month's Urban Connoisseur selection, we picked out our favorite "casual-fancy" porch pounders. Each of these wines is versatile for food pairing but drinks beautifully on its own. They're all very nicely made – we recommend them for everything from birthday dinners to casual cookouts with your friends. Summertime, here we come!
*1W* 2019 Ulacia Txakolina (Getaria, SP)
The “Txakoli” category has exploded in recent years, and we’re not even a little bit surprised. This effervescent white wine is amazingly crisp, with bright orchard fruit notes and a long finish. Drink any time, any day.
*3W* 2018 Brandl Riesling Kogelberg (Niederösterreich, Austria)
This dry Austrian Riesling is beautifully bright with notes of clementine, orange, and zippy tangerine. Pair this aromatic white with sushi, shellfish, and fried foods.
2020 Pasini San Giovanni "Il Chiaretto" Rosato (Lombardy, IT)
Lombardian rosé is fascinating – often a bit deeper in color than the Provençal style, this dry wine offers notes of raspberry and fresh strawberries. Serve with smoked salmon or grilled chicken.
*3R* 2017 August Kesseler "The Daily August" Pinot Noir (Rheingau, GE)
This smooth, medium-bodied Pinot is a great example of why Germany’s red wines seriously over-deliver. This is a charcuterie and cheese-board wine if we’ve ever tried one!
