November 2018 "Home Team Turkey Day" Urban Sampler
Is it just us or is Thanksgiving the single best part of being an American?! A day focused on family, eating, drinking, watching football, baking pies, and remembering all the reasons why we’re lucky to be living this thing called life. This year, we’re celebrating the American winemakers who work tirelessly to bring us intriguing and tasty wines, at an affordable price point. These four American-made beauties won’t break the bank, as this Urban Sampler four-pack is, as always, priced at just $50.
*3W* 2016 Hedges “CMS” White (Columbia Valley, Washington)
The CMS Sauvignon Blanc blend is a perennial best seller at UG, and with good reason - it tastes freaking delicious! The great winemakers at Hedges start with Washington-grown Sauvignon Blanc and blend in unoaked Chardonnay. The resulting wine has intriguing flavors of lemon citrus and lychee, with fantastic acidity and a racy finish. Oysters and Thanksgiving are a natural pairing - and this wine is the perfect match!
*6W* 2016 Lucinda and Millie Chardonnay (North Coast, CA)
Lucinda and Millie Chardonnay is another American-grown darling, hailing from Mendocino. Not as full-bodied as traditional American Chardonnay, this wine appeals to a wide-range of palates and pairs beautifully with Thanksgiving day nibbles, or even the main event! Easily sipped, this wine will see you through all aspects of the big day.
*3R* NV Anthony Road “Devonian” Red (Finger Lakes, NY)
Devonian refers to a unique geological period in the Finger Lakes region during which marine-based fossilized rocks were laid down in the beds of what is now a wine growing region. This unique terroir is expressed through this light-bodied wine, which is a blend of Cabernet Franc, Pinot Noir, and Lemberger. The style is fruit-forward, fresh, and light, making it a perfect pairing for Turkey Day (somewhat akin to an American-born Gamay!).
*7R* 2016 Compass Cabernet Sauvignon (CA)
Sourced from grapes grown throughout the coastal region of California, this American-born beauty is the perfect approachable Cabernet for Thanksgiving Day. Black cherry and chocolate aromas meld into a palate of blackberry, cassis and mocha. As delicious as this wine will be with dinner, we think it will taste equally as delicious with pecan pie, a late-night fire, and the first annual viewing of A Christmas Story!
