December 2018 "UG's Greatest Holiday Hits" Urban Sampler
UG’s “Greatest Holiday Hits” Urban Sampler
Just like the first time you hear Mariah’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You” on the radio, this holiday-themed Urban Sampler is packed with fan-favorites that have been known to hit a few high notes of their own. We picked four of our most popular wines, packaged them up with a bow, and have them ready to take home for just $50. It’s a perfect gift for your host, Yankee Swap, co-worker, teacher or, let’s face it, to just give to yourself. Toast the season with an Urban Sampler filled with UG’s Greatest Hits!
NV Marsuret Prosecco Treviso Extra Dry (Veneto, Italy)
This elegant and fun sparkling wine from Veneto, Italy is the perfect drink for any party! A dry wine, it features delicate aromas of ripe peach and white pear with candied nectarine and honey on the palate. Silky with a lively acidity, this wine wows the crowds and leaves them begging for more - just like George Michael’s “Last Christmas.”
*4W* 2016 Evolucio Tokaj Furmint (North Hungary, Hungary) $15.00
Most Furmint from the Tokaj region is sweet, but in the right hands this grape produces a lovely dry wine. This has become one of our best-selling white wines at UG - peachy but also citrusy, naturally fleshy but just barely medium-bodied. The theme of this wine is “Love Over Money,” an appropriate chorus for the holiday season!
*5R* 2016 Talamonti "Moda" Montepulciano d'Abruzzo (Abruzzo, Italy)
Intensely flavorful and rich, this Montepulciano is a natural complement to main course dishes like braised meats and earthy vegetables. It has a bouquet of cherries and vanilla, while the palate offers notes of rich red fruit and plum. Just like the smooth crooning of Bing Crosby’s “White Christmas,” this wine goes down nice and easy.
*7R* 2017 Tilia Malbec (Mendoza, Argentina)
This fresh, full-bodied Malbec hails from the mountainside vineyards of Mendoza, Argentina. Notes of black cherry and balsamic on the nose are accompanied by plum and spice on the palate. Baby, it’s cold outside, and this is the wine to pour when you want to stay for half a drink more!
