Mendel wines are often made in an "old-world" style, and this bottling is no exception. Right out of the glass, the aromas are earthy and brooding, with hints of dark juicy plum. On the palate, the chocolate notes come forward first, followed by hints of black tea and coffee bean. The tannins are smooth but notable, and the acidity is perfectly balanced. Black fruits linger on a dry finish. Drink this with a steak any day of the week.
