*5R* 2016 I Pentri Kerres Piedirosso (Campania, IT)

    5R

Medium-bodied wines with more structure and a mouth-feel similar to whole milk

*5R* 2016 I Pentri Kerres Piedirosso (Campania, IT)

The aroma is powerful and marked by notes of crushed volcanic gravel, a rich animal fur scent, spices, and ripe red berries. On the palate, it reveals abundant volcanic mineral qualities, aged leather, and a wealth of macerated dark cherries as its foundation. While it maintains a noticeable level of acidity, it's well blended into the overall profile. The wine still has a considerable amount of tannins that lend a chalky texture to the mouth.

    About The Varietal

    Piedirosso

Piedirosso, an ancient black-skinned grape, is grown throughout the Campania region in Italy. While extensively cultivated in the 19th Century after the phylloxera crisis, its popularity waned over time. Presently, there's a gradual resurgence as producers reintegrate Piedirosso, though mainly as a blending component.
