*2R* 2013 Tenuta Ripalte "Rosso delle Ripalte" (Tuscany, IT)
Varietal: 85% Alicante, 15% Carignano
Region: Elba Island, Tuscany, Italy
With its new Rosso delle Ripalte [Ripalte red wine], Fattoria delle Ripalte follows the wine producing tradition of the Island of Elba and also attempts to implement some innovation. Alicante, the principal vine species for this wine, is common to the entire Mediterranean basin. Also known as Grenache, Cannonau and Garnacha, it perfectly adjusts to the extremely dry climate of the Island of Elba. The results are extraordinary, and would have been hard to achieve with other varieties of grapes, which are more sensitive to the challenging nature of these locations.
Principal characteristics: intense bright ruby red colour. The olfactory impact is gentle, delicate and complex with notes of raspberry, redcurrant, mature cherry and spice. The palate perceives a broad structured fruity and floral flavour along with the rich mineral content and freshness. This wine has a soft velvet tannic texture with a remarkably harmonious personality and a surprisingly elegant close.
