*2R* 2021 Kara-Tara Pinot Noir (Western Cape, SA)

Kara-Tara is a new joint-venture between Rüdger van Wyk (2018 Diners Club Young Winemaker of the Year) and José Conde of Stark-Condé Wines. The name “Kara-Tara” refers to a small town near Knysna, located in South Africa where the owner and winemaker, Rüdger van Wyk grew up. Translated from the Khoisan, the language from the first people in Southern Africa, it means “deep dark shadows” and refers to the Karatara river that runs through the town.

"This wine excites me so much with its clean lines, forward fruit, and South African sense of place." - TJ

    About The Producer

    Kara Tara

Rüdger Van Wyk (2018 Diners Club Young Winemaker of the Year) graduated from Stellenbosch University in 2013 and quickly became a member of the Cape Winemakers Guild Protege Program, a mentorship allowing talented young winemakers to rub shoulders with giants in the industry. After a harvest in Burgundy, Rüdger became the assistant winemaker of Stark-Conde Wines and is now the founder and head winemaker for Kara-Tara Wines, named for the small town on the Cape South Coast where Rüdger was raised.
