Warmer growing regions, fully ripened grapes, extended barrel-aging add to the wine’s body

Montepulciano d'Abruzzo evolves into a richer interpretation of this classic wine. Crafted from the initial harvest of Montepulciano grapes from our vineyards, Spelt distinguishes itself further by aging exclusively in wooden barrels for a total of 18 months. The outcome is a wine of heightened complexity and robustness. The name "Spelt" pays homage to a variety of wheat, known as "faro" in Italian, which once flourished in the very soil where the La Valentina winery and the village of Spoltore, derived from "spelt," now stand.
About The Varietal
Montepulciano is a red wine grape variety that is extensively cultivated in central Italy, with a notable presence in regions like Abruzzo, Marche, and Molise in the east. It's important to note that despite its name, Montepulciano is not grown in the town of Montepulciano in southern Tuscany. Wines made from Montepulciano grapes are admired worldwide for their gentle flavors and rich color pigmentation.
Enjoy with charred vegetables, bolognese, or a hearty clam bake.
