Warmer growing regions, fully ripened grapes, extended barrel-aging add to the wine’s body

    *6W* 2021 Kara-Tara Chardonnay (Western Cape, SA)

Kara-Tara is a new joint-venture between Rüdger van Wyk (2018 Diners Club Young Winemaker of the Year) and José Conde of Stark-Condé Wines. The name “Kara-Tara” refers to a small town near Knysna, located in South Africa where the owner and winemaker, Rüdger van Wyk grew up.Translated from the Khoisan, the language from the first people in Southern Africa, it means “deep dark shadows” and refers to the Karatara river that runs through the town.

With classic notes of lemon zest and grapefruit, this new to the UG shelf Chardonnay packs a punch worthy of fall evenings on the porch.

    About The Varietal

    Chardonnay

Chardonnay, possibly the most famous among white grape varieties, is frequently regarded as reaching its peak expression in its Burgundian birthplace. However, this grape has journeyed across the globe, and Chardonnay wines, ranging from outstanding to less inspiring, can now be discovered in various wine-producing regions worldwide.

    About The Producer

    Kara Tara

Rüdger Van Wyk (2018 Diners Club Young Winemaker of the Year) graduated from Stellenbosch University in 2013 and quickly became a member of the Cape Winemakers Guild Protege Program, a mentorship allowing talented young winemakers to rub shoulders with giants in the industry. After a harvest in Burgundy, Rüdger became the assistant winemaker of Stark-Conde Wines and is now the founder and head winemaker for Kara-Tara Wines, named for the small town on the Cape South Coast where Rüdger was raised.
