Stefan & Linda Vaja are the 9th generation of winemakers at Glassier, a farm built by their ancestors in the Dolomites. Zweigelt, a grape native to Austria and named for its creator, Frederich Zweigelt, is a cross between the grapes of St. Laurent and Blaufrankisch. This liter bottle shows delicious, tart black fruit with earthiness on the palate. This is a great, easy drinking red that can be enjoyed as is or with a light chill.
About The Varietal
Zweigelt, Austria's indigenous grape variety, finds possibly its finest expression in Burgenland. It produces deep red, spicy wines with good aging qualities. A classic Austrian Zweigelt is characterized by a rich color, showcasing a deep, bright core of spiced cherry and raspberry flavors. The finest examples of Zweigelt have the potential to age well for a decade or so, but the majority are best consumed within a few years of release.
Enjoy with beef carpaccio, savory herbs, tomatoes, and mushrooms.
