*5R* 2016 Guido Rivella “Fausoni” Barbaresco (Piedmont, IT)

The Fausoni is one of Barbaresco's subtlest, with more delicate, aromatic, and elegant flavors as a result of its sandier soils. Rivella's Fausoni coaxes out extra flavors via green harvest and a submerged-cap fermentation in their 2015, creating a wine that will need cellaring to resolve the tannins, but will reward that extra time with an expressive and refined elegance seen in only a very few other Barbarescos from the vintage.

    About The Varietal

    Nebbiolo

Nebbiolo is the prominent grape variety responsible for the high-quality red wines found in northwestern Italy, especially the robust reds of Barolo and Barbaresco. These wines are often characterized by a unique aroma that combines scents of "tar and roses." Nebbiolo wines typically exhibit moderate body, robust tannins, elevated acidity, and are highly sought after, often commanding premium prices.

    About The Producer

    Guido Rivella

Following a remarkable 44-year tenure as an oenologist at Gaja, Guido retired in 2014. Subsequently, he, along with his children Enrico and Silvia, has been producing limited quantities of wine at their modest family estate in Barbaresco.
