Pierre Gaillard has been in love with vineyards all his life, so much so that he was caught plowing a neighbor’s vineyard with a horse when he was 12. Now he has vineyards of his own to work and focuses on making classic Rhone wines like this medium bodied Syrah. With pronounced notes of bacon and dark berries and well-balanced tannins, this is the red to open when you can't quite decide what to drink. It will just as happily pair with a grilled cheese and tomato soup as it would a heartier steak.

    About The Varietal

    Syrah

Shiraz and Syrah are interchangeable names for the same dark-skinned grape variety when viewed in terms of DNA. Originating in the Rhône Valley, this grape dominates plantings in the northern section of the valley. The name Shiraz is commonly used in Australia and certain regions of the New World, particularly those with warmer climates. The stylistic differences between Shiraz and Syrah wines are often distinct, contributing to the enduring dual identities of this grape variety.
