Wines from the fabled hill of Hermitage have been coveted for centuries (Thomas Jefferson was an avid fan) for their burly, deep-fruited and herbal take-no-prisoners style. The problem? Supplies are limited: Hermitage is just a single hill! We were able to find some of the excellent Domaine du Colombier Hermitage, a transparently made blend of three sites, representative of the superb 2016 vintage. Cellar this wine for a few years and raise a glass to our third president!

    About The Varietal

    Syrah

Shiraz and Syrah are interchangeable names for the same dark-skinned grape variety when viewed in terms of DNA. Originating in the Rhône Valley, this grape dominates plantings in the northern section of the valley. The name Shiraz is commonly used in Australia and certain regions of the New World, particularly those with warmer climates. The stylistic differences between Shiraz and Syrah wines are often distinct, contributing to the enduring dual identities of this grape variety.
